Thailand will have another election, pledges new PM.

A New Leader Steps In, Pledging Fairness and a Swift Path to a Fresh National Vote

Thailand – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – Thailand’s new prime minister has promised to call a new national election. He made the pledge on Saturday after a recent period of political uncertainty.

Businessman Anutin Charnvirakul was chosen by parliament on Friday. This decision filled the top job after the previous leader was suddenly removed from power.

Anutin built a new governing team that left out the powerful Pheu Thai party. This group is linked to the famous Shinawatra political family.

He gained support from the largest party in parliament by agreeing to their terms. He confirmed his promise to them again over the weekend.

“I am clear that we will dissolve the parliament in four months,” he stated in a public meeting. This move would trigger a fresh vote for the country.

The new leader also said he would quickly choose his team of ministers. He has already picked people for the important foreign and energy roles.

This political shift happened just as former leader Thaksin Shinawatra left the country. He traveled to Dubai, citing plans to see friends and receive medical care.

A Thai court is set to make a big decision about Thaksin on Tuesday. Some experts believe the ruling could result in him going to prison.

Anutin assured the public that his government would be fair to everyone. “There will be no favoritism, no persecution, and no revenge,” he told reporters.

His party was once in a coalition with Pheu Thai but left recently. The split was due to a controversial phone call involving the former prime minister.

The Shinawatra family has been a major force in Thai politics for twenty years. They often clashed with the country’s traditional royalist and military powers.

The family has recently faced several major political losses. This includes the ousting of their latest leader just last week.

Anutin is a well-known figure who has held several important government jobs. He is most famous for making cannabis legal in Thailand in 2022.

His new role as prime minister will be final once it receives official approval from the King of Thailand.
