COAS Warns of Ongoing Terrorist Threats from Afghanistan

RAWALPINDI: ISPR reports that Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir visited Bannu Cantt and was briefed on the overall security situation following a failed terrorist attack by Kharijite elements. During his visit, the Army Chief emphasized that the planners behind the attack would soon face justice.

The terrorist assault, targeting Bannu Cantt, was thwarted by the security forces. The terrorists attempted to breach the cantonment after Iftar, but six Kharijites were neutralized at different entry points. The attack resulted in the destruction of two bomb-laden vehicles, causing damage to a mosque and a house, leaving 12 civilians dead and 32 others wounded.

General Asim Munir also visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Bannu to inquire about the injured soldiers and praised their unshakable resolve. He commended the bravery of the forces and assured the families of the martyred civilians that the masterminds of the attack would be brought to justice.

He stated that the actions of the terrorists exposed their true intentions of being enemies of Islam, as they targeted innocent women, children, and elderly. The Army Chief reaffirmed the need for national unity in the fight against terrorism and assured that the Pakistan Armed Forces would continue to play a vital role in ensuring the country’s security and stability.

General Munir further noted that terrorist groups, including the Kharijites, are still operating from Afghan soil, and the use of foreign weapons in these recent attacks is evidence of Afghanistan’s role in providing sanctuary to such elements. He made it clear that no group would be allowed to disturb Pakistan’s peace and stability.

Earlier, upon his arrival, the Corps Commander Peshawar welcomed General Asim Munir.
