Tensions in the Middle East: Pakistan Postpones Two Key Visits to the United States

Islamabad: Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Pakistan has postponed two important visits to the United States — one by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and another by a trade delegation.

According to media reports citing official sources, Ishaq Dar was scheduled to travel to New York next week to attend a United Nations conference on the establishment of a Palestinian state. However, on Friday, France and Saudi Arabia — co-hosts of the conference — requested the UN to delay the event.

The postponement follows Israel’s recent airstrikes on Iran. Speaking in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the conference aimed at advancing the two-state solution for Israel and Palestine has been postponed but will be held at a later date.

“For security and logistical reasons, we had to delay this conference,” Macron said. “But it will be held as soon as possible.”

The changing dynamics in the Middle East have also led to the postponement of another planned visit — a trade delegation from Islamabad to Washington that was set to hold negotiations on tariffs.

Last week, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced in a press briefing that the trade delegation was expected to arrive next week for talks. However, the visit has now been put on hold.

Speaking to a private TV channel, a government source said, “The visit will still happen. We are currently working on rescheduling.”
