Tarar Credits COAS Asim Munir for Economic Stability, Criticizes PTI

Minister Lauds Nawaz and Shehbaz Sharif for Progress, Defends Electricity Price Cuts

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, on Sunday praised Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir for playing a key role in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy. Speaking at a ceremony in Lahore, Tarar emphasized the Army Chief’s pivotal contributions to the country’s economic recovery.

The minister highlighted that when Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assumed office, Pakistan was facing a critical economic situation, with many expecting the country to default. However, Tarar credited Shehbaz Sharif for prioritizing the state’s welfare over politics, ultimately preventing the crisis and steering the nation towards stability.

Tarar also lauded the leadership of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for guiding the nation toward progress, while acknowledging Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s relentless efforts to fight for the rights of the people. He pointed out that despite attempts by certain elements to undermine the government’s efforts, including pressure from the IMF, the Prime Minister successfully delivered on his promise of reducing electricity prices.

The minister further claimed that international financial institutions are now praising Pakistan’s economic management. In contrast, he accused political opponents of prioritizing personal politics over national interests.

Referring to his earlier remarks in February, Tarar criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, accusing them of being upset by the warm reception given to General Asim Munir during his visit to the UK. He accused PTI of spreading hatred, disrespecting the nation’s martyrs, and following an anti-national agenda.

Tarar also accused former Prime Minister Imran Khan of supporting militants in his speeches, which he said led to the resurgence of terrorism in the country due to his policies that encouraged militants and allowed their return.

The minister concluded by noting the global recognition of the Pakistan Army, highlighting the honor guard and warm reception given to General Asim Munir in the UK. He lamented that PTI views such international recognition with resentment, stating that the playing of Pakistan’s national anthem by the Royal Military Band was a moment of pride for the nation.
