T20 Cricket Gains Prominence among International Players: World Cricketers Association Survey

This survey underscores a growing preference for T20 cricket among players, signaling evolving dynamics in the sport’s global landscape.
LAHORE: In a recent survey conducted by the World Cricketers Association, T20 cricket has emerged as the preferred format among international players, highlighting a shifting trend in cricketing preferences.
According to the survey, which included 330 players from 13 countries (excluding Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan), T20 cricket was deemed the most important format by 30% of respondents. In contrast, 48% of players still value Test matches, while 22% prioritize One Day Internationals (ODIs).
The survey also tracked the changing perceptions towards cricket’s major events. In 2019, 85% of players considered the ODI World Cup significant compared to 15% for the T20 World Cup. However, by 2024, the popularity of the T20 World Cup has risen to 35%, while the importance of the ODI World Cup has decreased to 50%.

Additionally, 15% of players acknowledged the importance of the World Test Championship this year, underlining a diverse appreciation for cricket across different formats.
