Top Officials Attend Symbolic Welcome at Wagah
Lahore – In a gesture of goodwill and interfaith harmony, Pakistani authorities organized a symbolic welcome ceremony for Indian Sikh pilgrims at the Wagah Border on the occasion of the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru.
The event was organized by the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB), the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, and the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC), despite the absence of Indian Sikh pilgrims, who were denied permission to cross the border by the Indian government this year.
Every year on June 9, around 1,000 Sikh pilgrims from India are scheduled to travel to Pakistan under the bilateral protocol to visit their sacred religious sites. However, this year’s visit was not approved by the Indian authorities, prompting disappointment among organizers and officials in Pakistan.
