Swat Security Clash: Police Ambushed by Fitna-ul-Khawarij Militants in Gwalirai

SWAT:-(Haroon Siraj)-A deadly gunfight erupted on Tuesday between police and militants with the banned outfit Fitna-ul-Khawarij in the remote mountainous area of Gwalirai area tehsil matta Swat. The exchange of fire left a civilian dead and a police officer seriously wounded, authorities confirmed.

According to police, the incident occurred during a routine patrol in the jurisdiction of Gwalirai Police Station, where law enforcement personnel were ambushed by armed militants. Police retaliated immediately, engaging in a prolonged exchange of fire amid the rugged hills.

Local residents reported hearing heavy gunfire as the clash escalated. The identity of the slain civilian has not been disclosed, while the injured police constable was shifted to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.

As the situation developed, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Malakand, Sher Akbar, conducted an emergency visit to the conflict zone. Accompanied by District Police Officer (DPO) Swat, Muhammad Umar Khan, RPO Sher Akbar reviewed the operational response and issued on-ground directives to the forces.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police is fully alert and committed to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens,” RPO Sher Akbar told reporters at the scene.

No element will be allowed to disrupt peace or challenge the writ of the state, RPO added.

 

RPO Malakand also visited the Gwalirai Police Station, where he met with frontline officers and reviewed the security strategy. Officials briefed him on tactical deployments and upcoming search operations aimed at flushing out the remaining militants.

Following the visit, security forces expanded the cordon-and-search operation across the surrounding hills and valleys. Authorities stated that reinforcements have been deployed and aerial surveillance is being used to monitor potential escape routes.

The firefight marks a grim reminder of the enduring security challenges in Swat, a region that has seen significant improvement in law and order in recent years. However, sporadic militant activity continues to pose threats to stability.

Police officials reaffirmed their resolve, stating that counter-terror operations will continue with full force until the region is entirely cleared of militant presence.
