Suthra Punjab Worker Fire Claims Life in Gujranwala

Suthra Punjab worker fire incident leaves family devastated over unpaid wages

Suthra Punjab – A Suthra Punjab worker fire incident has ended in tragedy after the victim lost his life due to severe burns. The worker, identified as Zeeshan, set himself on fire two days ago outside a Suthra Punjab office in Gujranwala. He was protesting against the non-payment of his full monthly salary.

Zeeshan had gone to the office to complain to a contractor about illegal deductions from his wages. A CCTV camera inside the building captured the moment he stepped out, poured petrol on himself in the corridor, and set himself alight in front of other staff members.

Some employees who were present rushed to help him. They threw water on him in an attempt to put out the flames. He suffered critical burns on his head, chest, and other parts of his body. He was immediately taken to hospital for emergency treatment.

Despite medical efforts, Zeeshan could not survive his injuries. He passed away on Friday while undergoing treatment for his burns.

According to an official familiar with the matter, the contractor had been unlawfully cutting a large portion of the workers’ monthly salary of Rs21,000. Many workers had reportedly raised complaints about these pay cuts for months, but no action was taken.

The official shared that Zeeshan had told staff his children were going hungry and that he urgently needed his full pay. He had also warned that he would take his complaint to higher authorities if his rightful wages, as promised under the Punjab government’s salary package, were not paid.

Sadly, instead of getting help, Zeeshan was allegedly manhandled by some staff members. He was also threatened with dismissal if he continued to raise the issue. His final visit to the office came just two days before he took the extreme step that cost him his life.
