Supreme Court to hear petition for judicial commission on May 9 incident

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has scheduled a hearing for a petition seeking the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the May 9 incident. The petition was filed by the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, who has called for a thorough inquiry into the events surrounding that day.

A seven-member constitutional bench, led by Justice Aminuddin Khan, will hear the petition on December 10. Imran Khan has also requested the court to declare the military court trials of civilians in connection with the May 9 incident as unlawful.

In addition to this, the Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing of another petition filed by Khan challenging alleged electoral rigging. The same seven-member bench, under Justice Aminuddin Khan’s leadership, will hear this petition on December 11.

Furthermore, the court has set a date to hear a petition regarding the transfer of Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to a prison in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The petition, filed by lawyer Shaheed Qayoom Khan on security grounds, will also be heard by the seven-member constitutional bench on December 10.

These petitions mark significant legal steps in addressing the political and legal controversies surrounding Imran Khan and the PTI party, with crucial hearings set to take place in the coming days.
