Supreme Court Rejects Urgent PTI Founder Meeting Request

SC Orders Bench to Hear Appeals in Cipher Case

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a plea seeking an urgent meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan while directing the formation of a three-member bench to hear appeals challenging his acquittal in the cipher case.

According to a private news channel, the apex court dismissed the immediate meeting request. However, in a separate application filed by Khan’s counsel Latif Khosa for permission to meet his client at Adiala Jail, the court issued a notice to the government for Tuesday. Chief Justice Yahya Afridi emphasized that no order could be issued without hearing the other party and noted that related matters were still pending in other courts.

The chief justice observed that the case stemmed from an August 24, 2023, order and could be considered ineffective, though the court would first determine whether it remained actionable. The hearing was adjourned until Tuesday for a decision on the jail meeting request.

Separately, an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad adjourned proceedings linked to Faizabad protests following Khan’s disqualification, citing the absence of prosecution witnesses. The case, registered at I-9 police station under anti-terrorism charges, has been postponed until February 16.
