Supreme Court Petition Seeks Return of Bat Symbol to PTI

The petition underscores a pivotal legal challenge, awaiting deliberation by the Supreme Court amidst broader political implications.

Islamabad: A citizen named Muhammad Saleem has filed a petition under Article 184(3) in the Supreme Court, urging the return of the bat symbol to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Election Commission have been named as respondents in the petition.

The petition highlights PTI’s participation in the general elections without an election symbol and calls for the restoration of the bat symbol. Muhammad Saleem also seeks permission for independent candidates to align with PTI once the symbol is reinstated, advocating for their inclusion based on proportional representation principles.

Citing PTI’s significant electoral performance with over 18.46 million votes, the petitioner argues for the party’s entitlement to reserved seats. PTI emerged with the highest vote count among all parties in the recent elections, underscoring the basis for the symbol’s reinstatement.
