Super Eights Lineup Ensures Automatic Qualification For Next Tournament

Colombo (Web Desk) –  The teams advancing to the Super Eights stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 have also secured automatic qualification for the next edition of the tournament, scheduled to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand in 2028.

Pakistan’s emphatic win over Namibia on Wednesday finalized the Super Eights lineup. From Group A, former champions Pakistan and India advanced, while Group B saw Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe qualify. Group C qualifiers include the West Indies and England, while South Africa and New Zealand progressed from Group D.

As co-hosts, Australia and New Zealand already had guaranteed places for 2028. With the Super Eights teams confirmed, all 12 automatic qualifiers now have their spots secured. The remaining three automatic places will be filled by the highest-ranked teams in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings as of 9 March, following the tournament final. Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Ireland are expected to secure these positions.

The final eight spots in the 20-team tournament will be determined through regional qualifiers, allocated according to each region’s competitive strength.
