ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications, Privatization, and Investment Board Abdul Aleem Khan, while chairing a high-level meeting of the National Highway Authority (NHA), emphasized that the construction of the Sukkur to Hyderabad M-6 Motorway is his top priority, with plans to extend it all the way to Karachi. He further stated that the NHA aims to increase its revenue by 50 billion rupees within six months, which will be deposited into a “deposit account” for use in future projects to generate more revenue.
Abdul Aleem Khan expressed his appreciation for the success in increasing NHA’s revenue, which is projected to reach between 60 to 110 billion rupees. He outlined a goal to further boost the NHA’s revenue by 400 billion rupees over the next five years. Additionally, he announced that if the target revenue is achieved by June, all NHA employees will receive a bonus equivalent to one month’s salary.
The minister also reviewed ongoing projects, announcing the decision to upgrade the Sialkot to Kharian and Rawalpindi Motorways from four to six lanes, with work expected to begin soon. He directed that repair work on the motorways be completed by February and instructed the Federal Secretary of Communications to conduct an on-site inspection.
Furthermore, a committee has been formed under the minister’s guidance to explore the commercial use of NHA-owned vacant land to increase revenue. Abdul Aleem Khan made it clear that all decisions will be made based on merit, with no favoritism, and emphasized the need for NHA to generate its own funds.
