Damascus – A suicide bombing at a church in the Syrian capital of Damascus has left at least 15 people dead and several others injured, according to international news agencies.
Eyewitnesses reported that the suicide bomber detonated himself inside the church during a gathering. Syria’s Ministry of Interior later confirmed that the attacker was affiliated with the terrorist organization ISIS.
Officials stated that the assailant opened fire after entering the church and then blew himself up using an explosive vest.
According to security sources, this is the first suicide attack in Damascus since the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad.
