Chennai (Web Desk) — In the 31st match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, New Zealand cricket team defeated Canada cricket team by eight wickets to secure their place in the Super 8 stage.

The match, played in Chennai, saw Canada winning the toss and opting to bat first. Posting a competitive total of 173/4, Canadian openers Yuvraj Samra and captain Dilpreet Bajwa provided a strong foundation with a 116-run partnership. Bajwa fell for 36, while Samra delivered a masterful innings of 110 off 65 balls.

For New Zealand, bowlers Matt Henry, Jacob Duffy, Kyle Jamieson, and Jimmy Neesham claimed a wicket each.

Chasing 174, New Zealand reached the target in just 15.1 overs, losing only two wickets. Glenn Phillips played a dazzling 76, while Rachin Ravindra added 59 to guide the Kiwis to victory.

Earlier, Canadian captain Dilpreet Bajwa had commented that the pitch looked favorable for batting initially and was expected to assist spinners later in the match. Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner was unwell since the previous night, with Daryl Mitchell leading the team in his absence.
