Successful Heart Surgery Performed on Siblings at AFIC Under Special Directive of Field Marshal Asim Munir
AFIC is Pakistan’s premier cardiology institute, and we are proud to offer services of international standards," Dr. Somro stated.
Rawalpindi – In a remarkable humanitarian gesture, the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) has successfully performed life-saving surgeries on two siblings, Abdullah and Minsa, under the special directive of Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir.
The children’s father, Shahid Ahmed, expressed profound gratitude to the military leadership and the dedicated medical team at AFIC. “Field Marshal Asim Munir personally took notice of my children’s condition. The surgery they had been waiting for over nine years has finally been performed. I am deeply thankful to him and the entire team,” Ahmed said.
He added that the emotional toll of waiting for the surgery had been immense, but the successful procedure had brought immense relief and hope. “I may not have been able to bear it if something had gone wrong. The doctors’ efforts are truly commendable,” he said.
AFIC Executive Director Major General (Retd) Dr. Naseer Ahmad Somro confirmed that the children had previously sought treatment in India, where they were unfortunately denied care. Upon returning to Pakistan, Field Marshal Asim Munir ensured they were brought to AFIC for treatment.
“After thorough assessments, we formed a specialized medical team. Alhamdulillah, the operation was successful. AFIC is Pakistan’s premier cardiology institute, and we are proud to offer services of international standards,” Dr. Somro stated.

Brigadier Dr. Khurram Akhtar, Deputy Commandant AFIC, shared that Abdullah’s surgery, which lasted five to six hours, was carefully planned and executed by a team of expert doctors. “By the grace of Allah, it was a complete success,” he said.
Dr. Dawood Kamal, another member of the team, added, “We provided a treatment plan far superior to what was proposed by Indian hospitals. Alhamdulillah, both Abdullah and Minsa are now recovering well and ready to be discharged.”
This extraordinary act of care and leadership reflects the commitment of Pakistan’s military and medical institutions to serve humanity, particularly the most vulnerable.
