Successful Crackdown: Hundreds of Gas Thieves Apprehended, Millions Recovered in Fines

Multan: Crackdown on Gas Theft Leads to 27 Disconnections and Fines Worth Rs 0.04 Million; FIRs Lodged Against Offenders.

In a significant victory against gas theft, authorities in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Islamabad have carried out a successful crackdown, resulting in the disconnection of 461 illegal gas connections and the imposition of fines totaling Rs 6.63 million.

Under the vigilant efforts of the SNGPL (Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited), extensive raids were conducted across various regions, targeting individuals involved in gas pilferage. In Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Peshawar, Karak, Mardan, Sahiwal, Sheikhupura, Bahawalpur, and Faisalabad, the regional teams displayed remarkable efficiency in identifying and disconnecting unauthorized gas connections.

In Lahore, the regional team took decisive action by disconnecting 20 connections for illegal gas usage and 9 for the use of compressors. Similarly, in Rawalpindi, 97 connections were disconnected for illegal gas use and 5 for compressor usage, resulting in a fine of Rs 0.42 million against gas theft cases. The team also lodged one FIR against gas theft.

In Multan, one connection was disconnected for illegal gas use, and 26 for compressor usage, with a fine of Rs 0.04 million imposed against gas theft cases. Meanwhile, in Peshawar and Karak, 130 connections were disconnected due to direct and illegal gas usage, resulting in fines amounting to Rs 4.14 million against gas theft cases. Additionally, the team lodged 10 FIRs against gas pilferage. In Mardan, 8 connections were disconnected for illegal gas use, accompanied by the lodging of one FIR.

Further contributing to the crackdown, six connections were disconnected in Sahiwal for compressor usage. In Sheikhupura, 88 connections were disconnected for illegal gas use and 1 for compressor usage, with fines totaling Rs 1.8 million against gas theft cases. The regional team of Bahawalpur disconnected 44 connections for illegal gas use, 15 for compressor usage, and imposed a fine of Rs 0.14 million against gas pilferage. Similarly, in Faisalabad, 6 connections were disconnected for illegal gas use and 5 for compressor usage, with fines amounting to Rs 0.09 million against gas theft cases.

This concerted effort demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the authorities to combat gas theft and ensure fair distribution of resources among the citizens. The successful crackdown not only upholds the rule of law but also sends a strong message to potential offenders that such illicit activities will not be tolerated, ultimately contributing to a more transparent and accountable society.
