Submarine Cable Fault Disrupts Internet Services in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed on Thursday evening that a fault had occurred in the AAE-1 submarine cable near Qatar, which may lead to disruptions in internet and broadband services across the country.

The PTA issued a statement informing the public that the fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable, one of the seven key undersea cables connecting Pakistan to international internet networks, could negatively affect the internet experience for users nationwide.

The authority assured that it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as the situation develops. However, this incident highlights a recurring issue in Pakistan, where internet slowdowns and disruptions caused by faults in undersea cables have become a frequent occurrence. Reports of similar issues have surfaced almost every few weeks in recent years, frustrating internet users and businesses reliant on stable connectivity.
