Strong Earthquake Rocks Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, No Casualties
A significant earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale struck northwestern Pakistan on Tuesday, impacting areas such as Swat, Malakand, and various regions within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre reported that the quake originated near the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, with its epicenter located about 110 kilometers below the surface in the Hindu Kush mountains. The tremors from this deep-seated earthquake were felt across several cities, including Mingora, Bajaur, Dir, Buner, and Shangla.
Azad Kashmir Experiences Double Earthquakes, Sparking Concern
The earthquake caused widespread alarm, prompting residents to evacuate their homes and buildings in a state of panic. Many people gathered outside, reciting verses from the Holy Quran as a form of solace and protection.
Despite the earthquake’s considerable strength, initial reports indicate that there have been no casualties or property damage in the capital city or its surrounding areas. Authorities have confirmed that the capital and nearby regions escaped significant impact, with no reports of structural damage or loss of life.
The quake’s aftermath saw residents returning to their homes with relief, as the situation remained stable. Emergency services and local authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected communities.
