Pedro Sanchez Advocates for Compromise on Proposed Tariffs for Chinese EVs
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stressed the need to prevent a trade conflict between the European Union and China. He advocated for dialogue and negotiation in response to the European Commission’s proposed tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs).
During an event in Kunshan, near Shanghai, Sanchez discussed the European Commission’s current anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese EVs and the possibility of imposing substantial tariffs.
He stated that all parties, including EU member states and the commission, should reconsider their positions to prevent escalating tensions.

Sanchez highlighted Spain’s goal to enhance trade and investment ties with China, especially in green and innovative sectors, while ensuring that geopolitical conflicts do not disrupt these relationships. He expressed optimism for productive negotiations that would address the interests of both parties.
During his visit, Sanchez also engaged with local business leaders, emphasizing the importance of maintaining positive relations between Spain and China.
