Snow Leopard Skin Worth $20,000 Seized in Punjab Wildlife Crackdown
During a recent operation targeting the illegal trade of rare wildlife, the Punjab Wildlife Department recovered a snow leopard skin and arrested those involved in the crime. The ongoing investigation has also identified the group behind these illegal activities, and further arrests are anticipated.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Wildlife Department reported that the snow leopard skin, which is highly valued on the international market, could fetch around $20,000. The group was using social media platforms to sell the skins of other expensive and rare wildlife species.
Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb emphasized the government’s strict stance on wildlife protection, stating that such illegal activities are further endangering Pakistan’s already vulnerable species. Snow leopards are among the endangered wildlife in Pakistan, with their population estimated to be between 250 and 420 individuals, according to the World Population Review.
