SNGPL Raids Yield 252 Disconnected Connections, Rs 5.8M Fines
Crackdown on Illegal Gas Usage: 12 Connections Disconnected in Lahore, FIR Lodged in Rawalpindi
Lahore: In a concerted effort to combat gas pilferage, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has conducted extensive raids across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Islamabad, resulting in the disconnection of 252 illicit connections and the imposition of fines totaling Rs 5.8 million.
The crackdown, aimed at curbing illegal gas usage, saw regional teams in various cities taking decisive action against offenders. In Lahore, 12 connections were disconnected for unauthorized gas usage, while an additional three were found utilizing compressors illegally. Similarly, in Rawalpindi, four connections were disconnected for unauthorized gas usage, with one more found utilizing a compressor illegally, leading to fines amounting to Rs 0.21 million. Additionally, a FIR was lodged against a gas theft case.
Multan witnessed four connections disconnected for unauthorized gas usage and an astonishing 20 connections for the illegal use of compressors. In Peshawar and Karak, the company disconnected a significant 155 connections due to direct and illegal gas usage, resulting in fines totaling Rs 5.5 million.
Furthermore, Sahiwal reported two connections disconnected for compressor use and another two for illegal gas usage. In Sheikhupura, 43 connections were disconnected for unauthorized gas usage, with fines amounting to Rs 0.03 million. Additionally, Bahawalpur’s regional team disconnected one connection for illegal gas usage, while Faisalabad saw five connections disconnected and fines of Rs 0.06 million imposed against gas theft cases.
