SNGPL Intensifies Crackdown on Gas Theft Across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad

The UFG Task Force for the Lahore West Region recently conducted a successful raid at Shah Kamal Road in Kamboh Colony, dismantling a direct bypass installed on the main gas line.

Lahore– In a determined effort to curb gas theft, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has escalated its crackdown on illegal gas connections across multiple regions, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad. The latest operations have resulted in the disconnection of 143 illegal connections and the imposition of fines totaling Rs 2.9 million.

The UFG Task Force for the Lahore West Region recently conducted a successful raid at Shah Kamal Road in Kamboh Colony, dismantling a direct bypass installed on the main gas line. The stolen gas was being utilized by a local tandoor and hotel, whose owner had also installed two gas compressors to siphon gas. The bypass was removed, and a request for an FIR against the culprit has been filed at Wahdat Colony Police Station.

In Lahore, the team disconnected 12 illegal gas connections and three for the use of compressors, imposing fines amounting to Rs 1.31 million. Additionally, two FIRs were lodged against the gas thieves. Similar actions were taken in other cities:

  • Multan: 8 connections were disconnected for illegal use of gas and compressor use.
  • Karak: 67 connections were severed due to direct and illegal gas usage.
  • Peshawar: 32 connections were cut off, with fines totaling Rs 0.07 million.
  • Sheikhupura: 4 connections were disconnected, with fines amounting to Rs 0.2 million.
  • Faisalabad: 3 connections were terminated, with fines of Rs 0.04 million.
  • Sahiwal: 1 connection was disconnected.
  • Bahawalpur: 1 connection was severed.
  • Gujrat: 1 connection was disconnected.
  • Gujranwala: 1 connection was severed, with fines amounting to Rs 0.30 million.
  • Mardan: 10 connections were disconnected, with fines totaling Rs 1 million.

The aggressive stance taken by SNGPL highlights the company’s commitment to addressing the rampant issue of gas theft, which not only causes substantial financial losses but also disrupts the equitable distribution of resources. These operations are part of an ongoing campaign to ensure lawful usage of gas and to deter future violations.
