SNGPL Disconnects Over 212 Gas Connections in Punjab, KP and Islamabad

Mobile Phone Company in Hot Water for Gas Theft, Ordered to Pay Rs. 3.7 Million,

Lahore/Islamabad, (Staff Reporter):  Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has intensified its crackdown against gas pilferers with raids on major businesses in Lahore and Islamabad.
In Lahore, the SNGPL’s Lahore region team visited an international fast food chain in Defence Y block market on the complaint of meter tampering. The meter was sent for laboratory testing where 100% tampering was proved. The regional team immediately disconnected the gas connection of the fast food chain.
In Islamabad, the regional team raided a well-known educational institution in sector G7 where an illegal gas connection was used. The institution illegally consumed 130 hm3 gas which is equivalent to Rs. 1.5 million. The said institution already owes SNGPL a sum of Rs. 2.6 million hence total outstanding amount now stands at Rs. 4.1 million.
In another major development, SNGPL sent a notice for recovery of Rs. 3.7 million from an international mobile phone company. It is pertinent to notice that the said company’s mobile tower in Karak was found to be involved in gas theft.
The crackdown against gas pilferers is part of SNGPL’s efforts to ensure the efficient and equitable distribution of gas. The company has urged all its consumers to use gas judiciously and refrain from engaging in any illegal activities.
The gas pilferers will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law. SNGPL has also requested the police to take action against the gas pilferers.

ISLAMABAD_ Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has disconnected over 212 gas connections and imposed fines Rs. 1.95 million in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad in a crackdown against gas pilferers.
In Peshawar, the company disconnected 30 connections on account of direct use of gas and illegal connections while one FIR was lodged. SNGPL’s team in Mardan disconnected one gas connection for using domestic connection for commercial purposes. A sum of Rs. 108,100 was also booked against gas theft.

In Sialkot, the company disconnected 38 connections on illegal use of gas and for using compressor. Two gas connections were disconnected in Sargodha on meter tampering while another 3 connections were disconnected on account of illegal use of gas in Sargodha. The regional team also lodged one FIR at the local police station.
The regional team in Gujranwala disconnected 12 connections on illegal use of gas while another 10 connections were disconnected for using compressors. The team booked Rs. 238,000 against gas theft while also lodging two FIRs.

In Gujrat, SNGPL disconnected 7 connections on illegal use of gas while another 3 on use of compressor. The company disconnected 5 connections on direct use gas while booking Rs. 1,500,000 against gas theft in federal capital Islamabad. In Sahiwal, 5 meters were disconnected on illegal extensions.
The regional team in Faisalabad disconnected 11 connections for gas theft while another 8 for use of compressors. The region also booked Rs. 104,000 against gas theft.

In Lahore, a total 8 connections were disconnected by the regional team. In Bahwalpur, the regional team disconnected 23 connections on use of compressor while another 13 on illegal extensions. The company disconnected 15 connections on illegal use of gas while 8 connections were disconnected on use of compressor in Multan. In Sheikhupura, 8 connections were disconnected on illegal use of gas and 2 meters were disconnected on use of compressor.

SNGPL is processing these cases for booking of volume as per SOPs. The company has also submitted applications in the local police stations for lodging of FIRs against gas pilferers as per law.
