$110 Million Project Aims to Eradicate Power Theft, Enhance Customer Experience,
Islamabad-(Mudassar Iqbal)_Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has launched an ambitious project to replace traditional electricity meters with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters. The $110 million project, funded by the Asian Development Bank, aims to modernize the electricity distribution system, eliminate power theft, and enhance customer experience.
The project will benefit consumers by providing accurate and timely billing, reducing power outages, and enhancing customer support. The AMI system will also enable consumers to monitor their electricity consumption daily through a mobile application.
IESCO has already installed over 130,000 AMI meters in Rawalpindi City and Rawalpindi Cantt circles. The installation of AMI meters will be completed in three years, with a target of replacing 1.2 million connections in the first phase.
The project will bring numerous benefits, including accurate meter reading, billing, and control of power theft. The AMI system will also enhance revenue recovery, reduce power sector losses, and improve IESCO’s ability to reduce non-technical losses.
IESCO is committed to bringing power sector reforms, innovation, and exceptional customer service. The company has launched an awareness campaign to educate consumers about AMI meters and is working with international experts to ensure the successful completion of the project.
The successful completion of this project will herald a significant breakthrough in Pakistan’s power sector, and IESCO management earnestly requests the full support and cooperation of esteemed customers to ensure a seamless transition and optimal outcomes.
