Tahir Masood Aims for Zero Tolerance: Elimination of Power Theft is the Ultimate Target

Islamabad(Mudassar Iqbal)-Dr. Tahir Masood, Chairman of the Board of Directors at IESCO, has reiterated the company’s commitment to eradicating power theft in its region. In a statement, he emphasized that the ongoing campaign against power theft is a national effort, with IESCO’s Operations M&T and Surveillance Directorate working in collaboration with the FIA, Police, and other law enforcement agencies.

Dr. Masood stressed that power theft is a significant hindrance to Pakistan’s economic growth and a major obstacle to providing cheaper and uninterrupted power supply to valuable customers. He highlighted the severity of the issue, stating that power pilferers are not only stealing electricity but also destroying the country’s economic growth.

During the month of August 2024, IESCO’s detection teams caught 315 power thieves, imposing a fine of Rs. 26 million and arresting 30 electricity stealers. Since the crackdown began in September 2023, a total of 14,479 electricity thieves have been fined Rs. 688.4 million, and 1,913 power thieves have been arrested by the police.

Dr. Masood showed his commitment to zero tolerance against power theft and facilitators, urging customers to report power theft on the designated helpline numbers 0519252933 and 0519252934. He emphasized that the public’s support is crucial in eliminating power theft and ensuring a sustainable power supply.
