SM Qureshi, Fawad, others cleared to contest elections 2024

The nomination papers of key PTI figures restored by the election tribunals.

ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, several senior political leaders from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Fawad Chaudhry, Zulfi Bukhari, Atif Khan, Naeem Haider Panjutha, and Firdous Shamim Naqvi, have successfully secured relief from election tribunals as their nomination papers were accepted for the upcoming February 8 general elections.

The process of hearing objections filed against the rejection or acceptance of nomination papers continued on Friday, with notable outcomes favoring PTI leaders. The election tribunal approved appeals filed by Shah Mahmood Qureshi and his son Zain Qureshi against the initial rejection of their nomination papers from NA-214.

Moreover, the nomination papers of key PTI figures, including PTI founder’s lawyer Naeem Haider Panjutha, Zulfi Bukhari, and Haleem Adil Sheikh, were also restored by the election tribunals. Appellate tribunals overturned objections raised by Returning Officers (ROs) on the nomination papers of candidates such as Raja Bashrat, Qazi Ahmed Akbar, Umer Tanvir Butt, and those contesting from NA-25.

In a parallel development, the Balochistan election tribunal granted permission to several other candidates to contest the upcoming general elections, overturning the initial rejection of their nomination papers by returning officers. Balochistan High Court judges Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar and Justice Amir Nawaz Rana reviewed and decided on the appeals, ensuring a fair and inclusive electoral process.
