Sixth Polio Case Emerges in Balochistan during 2024
The virus strain identified belongs to the YB3A poliovirus cluster, consistent with all positive cases and environmental samples reported this year.
QUETTA: Balochistan reports its sixth polio case of the year, sparking renewed concerns about the spread of the virus in the region.
The latest case was confirmed by the National Institute of Health Laboratory, which detected the polio virus in samples from a one-and-a-half-year-old child in Union Council Golestan 2, Qila Abdullah district. The child began showing signs of disability on June 3.

Dr. Malik Mukhtar Bharat, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Health, highlighted that this marks the fifth polio case from Balochistan in 2024. He also noted that polio virus has been found in environmental samples from over 40 districts across the country this year.
Health officials are urging increased vigilance and immunization efforts to combat the spread of this debilitating disease.
