Six men hanged in Iran for Mossad links, cleric’s killing

Authorities alleged that the network had carried out several violent operations in recent years aimed at destabilizing Khuzestan Province

TEHRAN: Iran on Saturday executed six militants accused of links to Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, and one Kurdish militant involved in the killing of a cleric, according to reports from Iranian state media.

The executions took place early morning in the southwestern city of Ahvaz, Khuzestan Province, following court verdicts confirming their involvement in acts of terrorism, bombings, and assassinations targeting Iranian security forces.

Iran’s state news agency said the “members of a terrorist group affiliated with the Zionist regime” had received logistical and financial support from foreign elements opposed to Tehran.

Authorities alleged that the network had carried out several violent operations in recent years aimed at destabilizing Khuzestan Province. These included armed assaults, bombings, and attacks on police and military installations.

The report said the group played a direct role in the killings of several security officials and clerics — among them Allah-Nazar Safari, Mohammad Reza Rafiei-Nasab, Ali Salehi-Majd, and Younes Bahr.

According to the judiciary’s statement, the convicted individuals confessed to manufacturing and planting explosives, bombing a gas station in Khorramshahr, attacking banks, throwing grenades at a military center, and opening fire on mosques.

Iranian media described the group as “Mossad agents” who had planned an armed insurgency in Khuzestan, a province long considered sensitive due to its ethnic diversity and history of unrest.
