Lahore: Sir Syed Express to Resume Service on Karachi-Rawalpindi Route under Private Sector Partnership” The Railway Department has announced the revival of the Sir Syed Express, which will recommence operations between Karachi and Rawalpindi starting September 1, following a hiatus since 2022 due to devastating floods.

Railway officials have confirmed that the Sir Syed Express will operate under a public-private partnership with a private logistics company. An agreement has been finalized, with the private operator agreeing to an annual fee of 38,000 rupees. The agreement entails the provision of new railway bogies, engines, drivers, and diesel by the railway department to the private administration.

This initiative forms part of Pakistan Railways’ broader strategy to enhance passenger services and boost revenue through public-private partnerships. The 22 passenger trains included in this model, such as Karakoram Express, Green Line, and Mehran Express, will offer premium amenities including Wi-Fi and upgraded dining cars.

Pakistan Railways CEO Amir Ali Baloch emphasized the commitment to providing top-tier travel experiences, citing recent upgrades like executive washrooms at Lahore Railway Station. Plans are underway to replicate these facilities at major railway stations nationwide within the next three months, reflecting ongoing efforts to elevate passenger comfort and service standards across the country.
