Sindh to Introduce Cambridge IGCSE Program in Govt Schools

ISLAMABAD: The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has announced plans to introduce the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) program in selected public schools as a pilot project under an expanded collaboration with Cambridge International.
The initiative seeks to give public school students access to globally recognized education standards and better prepare them for future academic and professional challenges.
The announcement was made at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards ceremony in Karachi, where 317 students from across Pakistan were honored for exceptional academic performance in Cambridge examinations.

This year, students from Sindh and Balochistan secured 120 awards, including 26 for achieving the highest marks globally and 53 for topping their provinces. Nationwide, 317 students earned 355 awards, with 83 for top marks worldwide and 63 for national distinction.
Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah, who attended as the chief guest, congratulated the awardees and said they reflect Pakistan’s bright future. He emphasized the need for an education system that fosters creativity, innovation, and practical skills to meet modern challenges.
Cambridge International officials, including Exams Director Amanda Ingram and Country Director Uzma Yousuf, praised the students’ achievements and resilience. They highlighted that strong educational foundations and support from schools, teachers, and families enable learners to adapt and excel in an ever-changing, technology-driven world.
