KARACHI: In a major digital shift, the Sindh cabinet has decided to completely scrap the traditional file-based system in cabinet meetings and make the use of laptops mandatory for all provincial ministers, advisers, and assistants, here on Thursday.
According to the decision, the Department of General Administration will be responsible for purchasing laptops and distributing them among cabinet members. In preparation for the shift, the section officer of the Cabinet has already initiated training sessions to familiarize members—many of whom reportedly lack basic computer skills—with the use of the new devices.
Under the new system, the entire agenda of cabinet meetings will be digitized and stored on laptops. These documents will remain confidential and accessible only to ministers and relevant cabinet officials. Additionally, the minutes of the meetings and official decisions will also be recorded and saved digitally.

This move marks a significant step toward paperless governance and aims to enhance efficiency, security, and environmental responsibility. However, concerns remain over the digital literacy of several cabinet members, many of whom are unfamiliar with modern technology.
Officials believe the transition will eventually lead to streamlined processes and more secure handling of sensitive government information.
