ISLAMABAD: Excitement fills the air as Shoaib Bashir gears up to make his much-anticipated Test debut against India, stepping in for the off-spinner Jack Leach. The 20-year-old cricketer is all set to showcase his skills on the big stage, with England‘s touring captain, Ben Stokes, expressing confidence in Bashir’s abilities and enthusiasm for the opportunity.

Bashir’s inclusion comes as a result of a visa delay that sidelined Jack Leach for the first Test in Hyderabad. However, Stokes confirmed the seamless transition, highlighting Bashir’s eagerness to seize the moment.

Joining Rehan Ahmed and Tom Hartley in England’s spin-heavy attack, Bashir will complement the team’s strategy alongside captain Joe Root, who provides a valuable part-time spinning option.

The forced change in the lineup, described as a straightforward swap, was necessitated by Leach’s left knee injury sustained during the previous match, where England secured a remarkable away win, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

In another adjustment, seasoned fast bowler James Anderson will replace Mark Wood as England’s sole paceman for the second match in Visakhapatnam. Stokes emphasized Anderson’s wealth of experience, particularly highlighting his effectiveness with the new ball, reverse swing, and off-cutters.

Anticipating the upcoming match, Stokes acknowledged India’s resilience despite facing challenges with key players like Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and KL Rahul sidelined due to injuries and personal reasons. Meanwhile, India’s wicketkeeper Srikar Bharat expressed confidence in the team’s ability to level the series in Visakhapatnam.
