Shehbaz announces contesting elections from Karachi’s NA-242
PML-N president thanks MQM for cooperation during last govt.
In a significant development, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has announced his candidacy for the upcoming general elections from Karachi’s NA-242 constituency. This decision comes after his previous electoral battle in NA-249, where he narrowly lost to the then-Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda.
Addressing a news conference in Karachi after meeting with MQM-P leadership, Shehbaz expressed gratitude for the cooperation extended by the Karachi-based party during the last government. Emphasizing the need for collective efforts to address challenges in Karachi, he pledged to transform the city and resolve basic issues once PML-N comes into power.
Highlighting key concerns such as public transport and water scarcity, Shehbaz stated that under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, these issues would be effectively tackled. He urged the public to support Nawaz Sharif through votes on February 8, emphasizing that the upcoming election would shape Pakistan’s future.
Shehbaz acknowledged the challenges faced during his previous tenure, citing difficulties in reducing inherited inflation. Despite this, he affirmed his commitment to addressing Karachi’s issues, emphasizing the city’s significance as a hub of banking, shipping, and trade.
The PML-N president also pledged to strengthen relations with MQM, acknowledging their support during the coalition government rule. He criticized the slow progress of infrastructure projects in Karachi, promising to expedite developments such as the construction of the Karachi to Hyderabad motorway.
