Shan Masood Reflects on Recent Team Performance

He underscored the importance of supporting players during challenging times to create a robust and future-ready squad. “The team is putting in significant effort to secure a positive outcome against England, especially after our disappointing performance against Bangladesh. We understand the hurdles ahead and are committed to delivering exceptional performances,” Shan stated. He acknowledged the team’s recent setbacks but emphasized a positive outlook moving forward.
Shan admitted that the Pakistan team did not meet its performance expectations over the past year, including during the series against Bangladesh. “We fell short in crucial moments, but we take responsibility for our actions and are preparing for improved results,” he remarked. He emphasized that Test cricket requires both mental fortitude and physical fitness, stressing that there will be no compromises in this regard.
Regarding preparations, he mentioned the importance of assessing the pitches in Rawalpindi and Multan to determine whether spinners or fast bowlers will play a crucial role in the matches. “We are focused on starting strong in the first Test and will evaluate conditions in Multan for the upcoming games,” Shan noted, adding that the fitness of players Khurram Shehzad and Aamir Jamal will be assessed before final selections.
On the topic of wicketkeeping, Shan confirmed that Mohammad Rizwan remains the preferred choice, although Sarfraz Ahmed is ready to step in if necessary. He also indicated that the team is developing 3-4 young wicketkeepers for the future. “Test cricket requires top fitness from wicketkeepers, and we are planning for the future in this area,” he added.
Shan expressed his confidence in Babar Azam, describing him as one of the best batsmen globally. “Babar is not out of form; he played a commendable innings in the Champions Cup,” he stated, urging the media and fans to give the batters more time to find their rhythm.
The captain emphasized the need to nurture young talent like Kamran Ghulam, ensuring they receive sufficient opportunities upon joining the squad.
As the team gears up to face England in Multan, Shan acknowledged the challenging weather and pitch conditions but stated that the players are committed to putting forth a strong effort. “We are backing our players and focusing on playing to our strengths,” he remarked, emphasizing the honor and responsibility that comes with representing Pakistan as captain.
Shan Masood concluded by addressing the pressures of captaincy, asserting that results will dictate the future. “Captaincy is not a charity; it’s a job. If we achieve good results, we will remain in our roles. If not, someone else will take over,” he concluded.
