Shan Masood Celebrates First Test Victory in Nearly Four Years
Pakistan skipper highlights team strategy and resilience following a challenging journey.
Test team captain Shan Masood expressed that achieving their first victory in nearly four years was a particularly special moment after facing significant challenges.
“For the boys to step up, a lot has happened this past week, but we devised a strategy to secure 20 wickets, and we made it happen,” he stated.
He added, “Three years and 11 months have fueled our hunger. There’s no doubting the effort and commitment; this success comes after some tough times. We implemented our plans and supported them with solid performances in both innings.”
Masood continued, “We tried green seamers against Bangladesh and were slightly off. There hasn’t been much cricket played in Multan, which offered some spin. Noman and Sajid are experienced players. Everyone put in significant effort on the field; everyone has a role to play. For Kamran, it’s never easy to replace one of the best batters in the world. I read some unpleasant comments, but getting that century was special. Agha is one of my favorite players; he’s a true team player. Saim Ayub showed maturity in the first innings.”
England’s captain Ben Stokes remarked, “Ben Duckett’s century in the first innings set the tone for us. In extreme conditions, you need to find a way to counter the spin. I prefer not to dwell on hindsight… No one intends to drop catches, but they’re hard to come by behind the wicket in these conditions.”
Stokes acknowledged the contributions of the fast bowlers, saying, “While spinners often get the spotlight, Carse and Potts kept charging in with ball after ball, creating a great atmosphere when the spinners needed a break. I worked hard to get fit for this match; nothing can truly prepare you for standing in the field in this heat. This has been a fantastic series so far, and it’s exciting that it’s coming down to the final match.”
