Shahreen Chowk Underpass Construction Disrupts Exams in Islamabad

The disruption comes as the Shahreen Chowk underpass project enters its final stage.

ISLAMABAD: The construction of the Shahreen Chowk underpass has led to the closure of a major road, causing disruptions in academic activities in the city. Scheduled exams at prominent universities, including Bahria University and Air University, have been postponed, leaving students anxious and frustrated.

According to sources, students of Bahria University and Air University were informed via SMS that exams scheduled for December 27 and 28 have been postponed. The messages cited restricted access around Shahreen Chowk as the reason and stated that new exam dates would be announced later by the respective department heads.

However, no official announcement has yet been made by the universities, creating further confusion among students. Many students expressed concern that the sudden postponement has affected their preparation and could potentially delay the semester break.

The disruption comes as the Shahreen Chowk underpass project enters its final stage. Located at the intersection of 9th Avenue and Jinnah Avenue, the area has long faced traffic congestion, and detours have caused significant inconvenience to commuters.

A few days ago, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the project site and directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to avoid further delays. According to officials, most of the underpass structure has been completed, with road paving and finishing work still in progress.

The CDA has stated that the underpass will be ready for inauguration next week, which is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in one of Islamabad’s busiest areas.
