Shahid Afridi Criticizes India’s Allegations Over Pahalgam Attack

Afridi Slams India's 'Unjustified' Allegations After Pahalgam Attack, Calls for Dialogue

Dubai: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has strongly criticised India’s immediate allegations against Pakistan following the recent deadly attack in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The attack claimed the lives of at least 27 tourists, intensifying tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

Speaking to media in Dubai, Afridi termed India’s response as “premature and baseless,” saying, “Blaming Pakistan without evidence is both unfortunate and unjustified.” He expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and condemned the surge in terrorist attacks within Pakistan as well.

Calling for peace and diplomatic engagement, Afridi emphasised, “Dialogue is the only solution to our issues; conflict brings no benefit.” He urged both nations to separate politics from sports, stressing the importance of not letting cricket be impacted by geopolitical tensions.

Rising Tensions Post-Pahalgam Attack

In the aftermath of the attack, India took a series of stern measures — suspending a water-sharing treaty, closing the main land border crossing with Pakistan, downgrading diplomatic ties, and revoking visas for Pakistani nationals.

Pakistan retaliated by expelling Indian diplomats and military officials, cancelling visas for Indian nationals (except Sikh pilgrims), and closing the Wagah border from its side. Islamabad also issued a stern warning, declaring any Indian move to block the Indus River waters would be seen as an “act of war.”

Kashmir remains a flashpoint between the two countries since 1947, with Pakistan consistently urging India to honour its promise of a UN-mandated plebiscite — a pledge that remains unfulfilled.
