Shaheen-led Pakistan win the toss and elect to field in the opening ODI against South Africa.
International cricket returns to Faisalabad after 17 years in an exciting ODI series opener.
Shaheen Shah Afridi – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – In a thrilling start to the series, Pakistan’s new captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, chose to bowl first after winning the toss. This first game is especially meaningful as it brings international cricket back to Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium after a long wait of 17 years. The city last welcomed an international match back in 2008.
For years, Pakistan had to play its home games in other countries following a tragic event in 2009. While other Pakistani cities slowly began hosting matches again from 2015, Faisalabad had to wait because its stadium needed major improvements, which have now been completed.
Speaking before the match, Captain Shaheen shared his joy about Faisalabad’s big return. He called leading the national team a great honor and promised to give his very best. He also showed strong support for the former captain, Babar Azam, praising his talent and recent return to form with the bat.
Pakistan plans to deploy its first Chinese submarine in 2026.
Shaheen aims to lead by example, believing that when the team’s experienced players perform well, it leads to victory. He is captaining a strong Pakistani team with all its top stars. South Africa, on the other hand, has arrived with a younger squad, resting several of their key players. Their new captain, Matthew Breetzke, sees this as a chance for fresh talent to shine. The exciting return of star player Quinton de Kock from retirement adds to the intrigue of the series.
