Seven Pakistanis Killed in Libya Boat Tragedy, PM Orders Action Against Human Trafficking

ISLAMABAD: At least seven Pakistanis lost their lives in a tragic boat accident off the coast of Libya, with reports indicating that a total of 16 Pakistani nationals were on board the ill-fated vessel.

According to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the deceased belonged to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including six from Kurram district and one from Bajaur. Their identities were confirmed through passports.

The boat, carrying approximately 65 migrants, capsized near the port of Marsa Dila, northwest of Zawiya. So far, 10 bodies have been recovered, while rescue operations are ongoing to locate the missing passengers, including several Pakistanis.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the incident, stating that the Pakistani embassy in Tripoli has dispatched a team to Zawiya Hospital to assist local authorities in identifying the victims.

PM Shehbaz Sharif Expresses Grief, Orders Action

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and directed the Foreign Ministry to expedite the identification process of the deceased. He has sought a detailed report on the incident from relevant authorities.

The premier extended condolences to the bereaved families and instructed institutions to provide all possible assistance to the victims’ families.

Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy against human trafficking, PM Shehbaz vowed strict action against those involved in illegal migration networks, warning that negligence in this matter would not be tolerated.
