Senior U.S. counterterrorism official resigns over Iran war protest

Senior U.S. Official Resigns, Citing Iran War and Misinformation

Senior U.S Resigned  – (Web Desk) – A senior U.S. counterterrorism official resigned on Tuesday to protest the war in Iran. He said Iran did not pose an immediate threat to the United States.

Joseph Kent, director of the National Counterterrorism Center, wrote in his resignation letter to President Donald Trump, “I cannot in good conscience support this war.”

Kent, a former Green Beret who served multiple combat tours, said the war began because of pressure from Israel and its strong influence in the U.S. He added that Iran posed no real danger to America.

He is the first senior U.S. official to leave the Trump administration over the Iran conflict.

In his letter, Kent reminded Trump that until June 2025, he recognized that Middle East wars were traps. They cost American lives and drained the nation’s wealth.

Kent also said that early in Trump’s term, some Israeli officials and American media spread misinformation. This, he said, encouraged support for a war with Iran and went against the “America First” approach.

“This echo chamber was used to deceive you into believing that Iran posed an imminent threat to the United States, and that should you strike now, there was a clear path to a swift victory,” he said.

“This was a lie and is the same tactic the Israelis used to draw us into the disastrous Iraq war that cost our nation the lives of thousands of our best men and women,” Kent said.

“I cannot support sending the next generation off to fight and die in a war that serves no benefit to the American people nor justifies the cost of American lives,” he added.
