Lahore-( Staff Reporter): A security guard detained in connection with an alleged rape incident at a private college in Gulberg has been granted bail. The police initially took the guard into custody after a video circulated on social media, claiming that a female student had been raped.
However, subsequent investigations carried out by the police, and later ordered by Maryam Nawaz, revealed no evidence to substantiate the allegations.
The original video, shared by a lawyer, ignited widespread protests at the college and other universities across Punjab.
After the police investigation concluded with no findings of a crime, the government arrested the lawyer who had posted the video. He later released another video retracting his earlier claims, which led to his further detention.
In a press conference, Maryam Nawaz stated that individuals spreading unrest through false information would face consequences, suggesting that certain political elements may be involved.
Despite the guard’s release and the lawyer’s arrest, student protests persist. Students are demanding the establishment of anti-harassment committees at colleges and universities and are calling for justice.
