Section 144 Imposed Across Punjab Amid Monsoon Flood Risks

The government has also called for widespread public awareness regarding the restrictions to prevent avoidable tragedies.

LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has issued a notification enforcing Section 144 across the province to protect lives amid rising monsoon dangers.

The order bans swimming in dams, rivers, canals, ponds, and lakes until August 30, citing life-threatening risks due to high water levels.

Additionally, bathing in rainwater collected on roads, streets, and open areas has been prohibited. Unauthorized boating in water bodies and distributaries is also banned under the new directive.

Authorities said the measure has been taken in view of severe monsoon conditions and to safeguard human lives, especially children and young people.

Due to intense rainfall, many low-lying areas and open spaces have accumulated large pools of water, posing serious drowning risks.

Officials have noted a significant rise in water levels in rivers, canals, and reservoirs, making swimming or boating extremely dangerous during this period.

Law enforcement agencies and district administrations have been directed to ensure strict implementation of Section 144.
