Muzaffarabad (Noor Fatima) In a significant development aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in welfare distribution, the Department of Zakat and Ushr and the Special Communication Organization (SCO) have inked a memorandum to facilitate electronic Zakat payments to deserving individuals in Azad Kashmir.
The signing ceremony, held at the Sector Headquarters in Muzaffarabad, was attended by key dignitaries including Colonel Muhammad Rashid Khan, the Sector Commander of SCO, and Chaudhry Abdul Razzaq, Chief Administrator of Zakat and Ushr, among others.
Highlighting the challenging terrain and conditions faced by residents, Colonel Muhammad Rashid Khan emphasized SCO’s commitment to providing telecommunications services in even the most remote areas, including Neelum Valley and Haveli. Through the Zakat support program, SCO has already disbursed billions of rupees to deserving individuals, with a focus on transparent and timely aid delivery.
The agreement aims to introduce new technology to ensure transparent and timely distribution of Zakat funds. Under the agreement, deserving individuals will receive aid directly into their personal accounts within seven days via S Net and easy Paisa, enabling them to access assistance in their own villages.
Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq, the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, expressed his desire for the government to provide facilities to the poor, helpless, and needy people at their doorstep. He underscored the importance of collaboration between the Zakat department and SCO to improve welfare distribution systems and serve the people better.

The agreement comes as a relief to areas like Neelum and Haveli districts, where the absence of banks or branches posed challenges to transparent financial assistance delivery. With electronic payments, complications associated with cash payments are expected to decrease significantly, ensuring a more transparent and efficient system.
Chief Administrator Zakat and Ushr extended gratitude to Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq, Minister of Zakat and Ushr, and Secretary Zakat for their support and interest in the matter. They also commended Director General SCO Major General Umar Ahmed Shah for his efforts in enhancing telecommunication services and overall development in Azad Kashmir.
