The Indian authorities are mulling change in schedule for the first clash of Pakistan and India match of the ODI World Cup 2023 due to a Hindu religion festival.
The arch-rival teams, as per the lately announced schedule by the International Cricket Council (ICC), are set to face off on October 15 in Ahmedabad.
Indian med reports said the date for the India vs Pakistan iconic clash could be changed as October 15 marks the first day of ‘Navratri’, a festival celebrated across India, particularly in the state of Gujarat.
The report stated that security agencies have advised the BCCI to reschedule the schedule for the high-octane game due to security concerns.
“We are mulling the options that we have and a decision will be taken soon. We have been told by the security agencies that a high-profile game like India vs Pakistan, for which thousands of travelling fans are expected to reach Ahmedabad, should be avoided since they will be stretched because of Navratri,” a source told the India media.
If the schedule is tweaked, it could bring setback to fans, who have finalised travel plans and booked hotel rooms in the city.
