Islamabad(Staff Reporter); SC verdict on reserved seats should be reviewed: Rana Sanaullah, Rana Sanaullah, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political and Public Affairs, criticized the Supreme Court’s recent verdict on reserved seats, stating it goes against the Constitution’s clear instructions for independent candidates joining political parties.

Sanaullah believes the verdict violates Article 51 and relevant clauses, which require independent candidates to join parties within three days of elections. He also criticized the court’s decision to grant independent candidates 15 days to join parties and two additional weeks for processing their affiliations, exceeding Constitutional limits.

The government has decided to consult legal experts and review the Supreme Court’s judgment before determining its next move, with the option to file a review petition. The law minister, Azam Nazeer Tarar, clarified that the government would not challenge the verdict on political grounds, emphasizing the ruling alliance’s clear majority in the National Assembly.

The Supreme Court’s decision has been seen as a major legal victory for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), enabling their return to parliament and increasing pressure on the coalition alliance.
– Sanaullah expressed concerns that the verdict could lead to horse-trading and emphasized that the judiciary cannot alter the Constitution, only parliament can.

Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were arrested in a new NAB reference related to Toshakhana gifts yesterday soon after getting acquitted in the iddat case — also known as the un-Islamic nikah case — which was the last hurdle in the couple’s release from jail.

The couple was sentenced to seven years in prison and awarded a fine of Rs500,000 each, in February this year after a trial court found their nikah to be fraudulent as Khawar Maneka, Bushra’s ex-husband, moved the court against the couple’s marriage.
