SBP, HEC, Ghani Glass & SNGPL Secure Victories in President’s Trophy Second Round

Karachi: The second round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I saw dominant performances from State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Higher Education Commission (HEC), Ghani Glass, and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), who all emerged victorious in their respective matches.

At the SBP Sports Complex, Mohammad Ismail’s impressive 5-92 in the second innings helped SBP secure a comprehensive innings and 106-run victory over Pakistan Television (PTV). With PTV starting the day at 52-0, SBP’s bowlers swiftly dismantled their opposition, with Niaz Khan and Mohammad Abbas also contributing with key wickets. PTV was bowled out for 215, handing SBP a well-earned win.

In a thrilling comeback at the NBP Sports Complex, Higher Education Commission (HEC) defeated Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) by 130 runs. Despite a 46-run deficit in the first innings, HEC rallied to set KRL a challenging target of 194 runs. Mohammad Azab’s brilliant 9-wicket haul, including 4-13 in the second innings, ensured a dominant finish as KRL collapsed for just 63 runs.

Meanwhile, at the HPC Oval Ground, Ghani Glass cruised to a 229-run victory over Eshaal Associates. Ghani Glass posted 379 and 242 in their two innings, with Tayyab Tahir’s outstanding 139 leading the charge. Eshaal Associates, set a daunting target of 329, were bowled out for 99 in just 24.5 overs, with Ubaid Shah claiming 4-44.

At the UBL Sports Complex, SNGPL easily chased down a modest target of 178, defeating Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) by 7 wickets. Despite OGDCL’s resistance in the first innings, where they were bowled out for 197, SNGPL’s Qasim Akram (58 not out) and Abid Ali (49) saw their team comfortably home in 44.4 overs.

The third round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I will commence on Monday, 20 January, with matches scheduled across four venues in Karachi.
