Saudi Pro League Postpones Three Fixtures Amid Regional Tensions

Al Nassr and Al Ahli Match Rescheduled Until March 2027

ISLAMABAD: The Saudi Pro League (SPL) has postponed three fixtures, including the highly anticipated clash between Al Ahli and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr, citing logistical considerations amid heightened regional security concerns.

According to a statement published on the league’s official website on Tuesday, the Matchweek 9 fixtures have been rescheduled to ensure teams receive the mandatory minimum rest period between matches.

The meetings between league leaders Al Hilal and Al Riyadh, and between Al Ittihad and Al Shabab, have been moved to December 19. Meanwhile, Al Ahli’s encounter with Al Nassr has been rescheduled for March 6, 2027.

The league confirmed that all other Matchweek 9 fixtures would proceed according to the previously announced schedule, with no further changes.

The postponements come after Al Nassr’s AFC Champions League match against Uzbekistan’s Neftchi Fergana in Riyadh was delayed by an hour on Monday. The disruption followed an announcement by the Saudi-led coalition that it had intercepted a missile reportedly fired by Yemen’s Houthi movement towards the Saudi capital.

The latest developments come amid escalating regional tensions and reports of missile attacks targeting locations across Saudi Arabia, including airports and energy infrastructure.

The conflict involving the Saudi-led coalition and Yemen’s Houthis has intensified in recent days, raising security concerns and disrupting sporting activities in the kingdom.

The reported postponements highlight the potential impact of regional instability on Saudi Arabia’s domestic football calendar, although the league has officially attributed the fixture changes to logistical considerations and mandatory player rest requirements.
