Saudi Education System Adopts Chinese Language Curriculum

Saudi Arabia-Launched Chinese language courses in schools to provide young students with valuable language skills and enhance their cultural understanding of China. The initiative, which focuses on primary and middle school students, is supported by 175 educators currently teaching Mandarin throughout the Kingdom. This program follows an education agreement signed with China last year.

The Saudi Ministry of Education emphasized that learning Chinese will enhance students’ job prospects and opportunities for higher education at prestigious Chinese universities.

Hanan Alharbi, a mother from Riyadh, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, recognizing it as a significant step towards promoting global culture and providing useful language skills.

This initiative reflects China’s growing global economic influence and the deepening trade relations between Saudi Arabia and China. The ministry intends to progressively extend the Chinese language curriculum, aiming to include instruction up to the third year of secondary education by 2029. This phased approach will enable thorough evaluation and adjustments to the program as needed.
