Saudi Defence Minister Meets Asim Munir Amid Iran Tensions

RIYADH: (Web Desk) – Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman held a meeting in Riyadh with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir to discuss regional security concerns following recent attacks attributed to Iran.

According to reports, the meeting focused on reviewing the latest developments, including alleged Iranian attacks on the Kingdom and their potential impact on regional stability. The discussions were held under the framework of the strategic defence cooperation agreement between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, with both sides exploring ways to respond to the escalating situation.

During the talks, both leaders stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region. They expressed hope that Iran would act with caution and avoid steps that could further intensify tensions in the Middle East.

The meeting was also attended by Fayyadh Al-Ruwaili and Hisham bin Saif, who joined discussions related to intelligence cooperation and defence coordination.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Defence Ministry reported that its air defence systems successfully intercepted several drones targeting critical oil infrastructure. According to officials, 16 drones heading toward the Shaybah Oil Field located in the Rub’ al Khali were destroyed before reaching their target.

Defence Ministry spokesperson Turki Al-Maliki stated that four drones were initially intercepted while approaching the Shaybah facility, followed by another six in a separate attempted attack. Later, air defence units neutralized four more drones and then two additional ones aimed at the same location.

In another incident, Saudi air defences intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile directed toward Prince Sultan Air Base. Officials also confirmed that a separate drone was shot down east of Riyadh.

Earlier, Saudi defence systems had also intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile east of Al-Kharj, highlighting ongoing security threats in the region.
